As you may see from my living estate sale listings, I seek the less common art and holdings. So, as much as I admire the art of Hungarian born Sziklay Bela (1911 - 1981) I likely would not have acquired pieces had they been the traditional building or city scape scenes he is so well known for. But, I couldn't resist the opportunity to find these two lovely works of his that involve the rare character subject. Both pieces hold his 74 Via Senese, Firenze gallery stamp and phone number. And both pieces are pencil signed, titled, and noted as Original Hand Colored. (Aquaforte Originale). The paper size he worked on is 9" x 12" and then the art work is sealed in a matting of 12" x 17". Bela began his art career in Hungary before moving to study in France and then on to Italy in1934. The title on the depicted women is clear La Filatrice (The Spinner). I am not so sure on the depicted man. I believe the word rendition is intended to be as blacksmith or repairman, but I don't match the exact spelling. In any case, being a craftsman myself, I truly appreciate art depicting hand work so these two spoke to me immediately. There is a strong texture to the coloration. I believe it to likely be a pastel crayon. Note the magnified photo showing the even heavier layer of coloration to create the pattern on the women's dress. truly nice works ready to be framed in any variety of size or format and very much in tune with current decor. As always "Free Shipping, a charity donation, and I utilize the "Best Offer" format for all buyer considerations.
